Why are we called Fanny when we lose without scoring a point?

It’s never fun to be Fanny! However, the expression has its origins in a time when the loser did not have only disadvantages to achieve a zero score… Explanation:

Summary :

In the 19th century, Fanny, a young lady from the Croix-Rousse district of Lyon, used to console the loser of a Lyonnaise boules game. She would take him aside and pull up her dress to show him her bottom: the lucky loser!

That’s how the expression “Being Fanny” came about.
