Why is the rugby ball oval?

You might say that its shape makes it easier to play with, and you’d be right. Yes, but not so fast! History has its own version…

Summary :

The history of the oval rugby ball

In 1823, during a game of football at Rugby College in England, the ball had become too deflated to be played by foot. A pump, you may ask? Well no, not that day!

A schoolboy, William Webb Ellis, took him under his arm and led him into goal. Everyone found it amusing: rugby was born. And it’s still played with an oval ball!

God bless rugby ! And Karkoa, Of course !
