Is it possible to machine wash sportswear?

If you play sports regularly, you most likely carry your outfit in a men’s sports bag or a backpack. You will certainly have noticed that after a sports session, your things do not always smell good. Even if you never forget your sports clothes in your bag after a session, bad smells always end up setting in sooner or later. We give you some tips and maintenance advice for your bag so that you are no longer bothered by unpleasant odors.

Interior and exterior cleaning

To avoid bad odors, it is essential to regularly maintain your sports bag, inside and out.

If the bag is not very dirty, you can use lukewarm water with Marseille soap.
Using a soft sponge (do not use a “scraper”, you risk damaging the surface of your bag, whatever the material), remove all dirt and traces on the covering exterior of the bag.
Do the same inside, insisting a little more to remove anything that could be the cause of bad odors.
Then rinse, still using the sponge, then dry with a cloth.
The ideal is to then dry outside. When this is not possible, let your bag dry near a gentle heat source, but not too close so as not to damage it.

The cleaning method remains the same whether it is a fabric or leather sports bag. Be careful, however, not to wet the leather too much and not to scratch it. Do not dry a leather bag over a radiator or too close to a heat source. This type of drying could damage it and cause it to crack. You can also, after washing, apply a nourishing cream for riding leather to the exterior using a soft cloth. This will extend the life of your bag.

How to clean cat pee out of a gym bag?

There are some odors that are much more persistent than others. The smell of cat urine is particularly strong and can persist, even after washing.

You can then use Marseille soap with cold water and scrub well. Also try white vinegar cut with lukewarm water (one-third/two-thirds proportion). As a last resort, use soda crystals (not to be confused with baking soda) to absorb odors, then machine wash the bag.
