Triathlon des roses: everything you need to know about this charity event

A complete event, the triathlon incorporates three sports that are accessible to almost everyone: swimming, cycling and running. While many events are organised throughout the year, the Triathlon des Roses stands out on two counts.

Summary :

This is a 100% women’s triathlon, with all proceeds going to the ARC Foundation for breast cancer research.

Did you say “rose triathlon”?

Created in 2014, the Triathlon des Roses is a 100% women’s event, organised in different towns in France.

As well as the sporting aspect, the Triathlon des Roses is also a charity event. The Triathlon des Roses is organised by the ARC Foundation for cancer research. All the money raised goes towards cancer research, and in particular breast cancer research, which claims too many victims every year.

The race naturally consists of a swim, followed by a cycle circuit and then a run. The Rose Triathlon can be run individually or as a relay. The individual event is reserved for women.

On the other hand, if you choose the relay, the event will be contested in teams of two or three people, with each team member taking part in one of the three disciplines, swimming, cycling or running. Teams can be all-female or mixed.

Individual collections

To make taking part even more meaningful, everyone can create a personal fundraising page. The principle is simple. Once you’ve created the page, you share the link with your friends and family, who can in turn do the same. Anyone who wants to can then support you by helping you raise funds and making a donation.

You can set yourself a fund-raising target that will undoubtedly help you motivate all your friends and family to support you. To do this, you can use all the means at your disposal. Direct contacts, telephone, emails, social networks – any way you can to mobilise your support and get your contacts to support you by making donations.

Each donation added to your kitty will increase the final amount obtained, which can then be devoted to research.

One city, one event

The Triathlon des Roses takes place in a number of cities, and is organised to coincide with the launch of “Pink October”, the month of international mobilisation for breast cancer screening. Currently, Paris and Toulouse are hosting the event. The events may vary slightly depending on the city organising the event.

For example, in Toulouse, the triathlon consists of 100 metres of swimming, 6 kilometres of cycling and 2 kilometres of running to finish. The Paris event consists of 200 metres of swimming, 8 kilometres of cycling and 5 kilometres of running.

The image of triathlon is often that of a particularly demanding sporting discipline. To win, you have to be good at swimming, cycling and running. We all have images of these specially-trained sportsmen and women racking up the kilometres in these three sports. Fortunately, the participants don’t come here to win, but to support a cause. The events are adapted in terms of distance and difficulty to enable as many people as possible to take part and come together around a unifying event.

The events may be slightly different, but the aim is the same: to raise funds to fight breast cancer.

The ARC Foundation and breast cancer

The ARC Foundation is a non-profit organisation that has set itself the goal of curing two out of three cancers by 2025. The development of precision medicine, such as targeted therapies, immunotherapies and less invasive surgery, are priorities for the foundation. It is also working to improve care for young children and teenagers with cancer.

The ARC Foundation is present throughout France and funds several hundred innovative and promising research projects. More than €25 million is devoted to these research projects every year. These budgets are only possible thanks to the generosity of donors.

The search for donors, particularly through sporting events such as the Rose Triathlon, is therefore particularly important. They bring visibility to a wide audience and help to spread a message of hope to all sufferers.

Why a sporting event?

Almost 20% of breast cancers could be prevented by regular exercise. One case in five. That’s far from negligible. So the aim of this event is also to promote sport as a way of preventing breast cancer.

Secondly, sport is a unifying activity. It’s an opportunity to come together around a just cause that requires unfailing support. Taking part in the Triathlon des Roses is also an opportunity to take part individually in a very important collective project, the impact of which can be decisive for a number of people.

Finally, the triathlon is made up of three sporting disciplines that are accessible to almost everyone. The distances on offer are very reasonable compared with more traditional triathlon events, enabling a very wide audience to take part in the event.
