Pancake day
Contrary to popular belief, the traditional English pancake is as thin as ours and is fried in a frying pan (unlike the American pancake, which is as thick as a blini).
While in France the national day for pancakes is Chandeleur, Pancake Day is celebrated in the UK on Mardi Gras Day, 13 February!
Pancake day race
But watch out! In addition to the pancakes, there’s the traditional London race: the Pancake Day Race!
Often with the aim of raising money for charities, participants have to fry pancakes in a frying pan all along the route! Of course, all the while trying to finish the race as quickly as possible!
Pancake Day Races take place all over the capital. You can even spot some of the celebrities taking part in one of the most famous: the Parliamentary Pancake Race, where politicians compete against journalists to be crowned champions, in front of the Palace of Westminster!
