Badminton is currently THE fashionable afterwork sport. But its origins go back a long way. Here’s a look back…

Summary :

Indian Poona, the origin of badminton

Indian poona inspired our modern badminton. Having fallen into oblivion, it resurfaced in England in 1873. After a few drinks, a group of English officers returning from India decided to amuse themselves with a cork of champagne, some rackets and a few feathers.

And the origin of the word Badminton?

From then on, their entertainment was named after the venue where the 1st modern game of this ancient sport was played: Badminton House.

That’s how badminton got its name!
